The Olympic Flame has lit Montepulciano
Wednesday, December 10, 2025, was a memorable day for Montepulciano, with the nine torchbearers greeting hundreds of residents of Montepulciano and guests, in keeping with the Olympic values of peace, unity, and sharing.
Montepulciano welcomed the passage of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic flame in style, one of the most symbolic moments on the journey that will accompany Italy toward next year’s Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
The flame entered Montepulciano from Viale Calamandrei (at the same height as Via delle Balze di San Lazzaro), near the former hospital, and then traveled along Viale Sangallo, Porta al Prato, Via di Gracciano nel Corso, Via di Voltaia nel Corso, Via dell’Opio nel Corso, and Via del Teatro, arriving in Piazza Grande, the monumental heart of the city. Here, in front of the Town Hall, the torchbearer lit a ceremonial brazier, in front of the city authorities and hundreds of Poliziano residents who witnessed this historic moment for Montepulciano.
After a greeting from Mayor Michele Angiolini, the last torchbearer departed, walking down Via del Teatro and exiting through Porta delle Farine, where the flame continued on toward Pienza and then Siena.
